Bio

Mahiri Comeaux, who was once Mahiri Moore Jr., changed his name in 2023 following a promise to his family members to continue the legacy of their ancestry. With Louisiana Creole and Cajun origins and genealogy, Mahiri was born and raised in Southern California’s San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties. From various SoCal cities like Ontario, Pomona, and Victorville, he represents California with pride, in addition to Louisiana, the Caribbean, and his Native American roots.

From elementary school to now, after graduating from UC Davis, Mahiri has done many things. At age twelve, in 2014, Mahiri was a part of the People to People Ambassadors program and was sent to France and England for two weeks to make academic notations on what he observed and experienced abroad. Making the Principal’s Honor Roll every year in elementary, middle, and high school, Mahiri was also one for extracurriculars. He was heavily involved in Oak Hills High School’s theater program, starring in Les Miserables as Jean Valjean, Macbeth, Urinetown’s Bobby Strong, and being a student director of the department while leading DTASC competitions (Drama Teachers Association of Southern California).

In 2020, Mahiri graduated from high school during COVID-19 and founded and led a California non-profit organization called Moore Truth More Change to combat the difficult times. Tailored to support young individuals from historically minoritized populations, Mahiri did community clean-ups, podcasts, and book giveaways for his non-profit. The first individual on his podcast was the chancellor of the university he then attended, UC Davis. In 2021, the Sacramento Kings honored Chancellor May of as one of their Dream All-Star recipients for his impact on the Sacramento Valley, and he selected Mahiri as a young mentee to share the award. That same year, Mahiri was also featured in Chancellor May’s Face to Face series, discussing his work with underrepresented youth.

Mahiri then became part of the UC Davis episode of The College Tour, an award-winning television series streaming on Amazon Prime. It was around this time in 2021 when Mahiri, after working with EOP (Educational Opportunity Program) and STEP (Special Transitional and Enrichment Program), became a STREAM Social Media Intern at the Strategic Communications Department of UC Davis. For three years, Mahiri was designated to create culturally conscious and identity-based social media content for the UC Davis Fire Department (UCDFD) and Health 34. Single-handedly, he produced, directed, and facilitated content for the social media of the UCDFD, measured by the total reach, impressions, and interactions of an estimated 800,000,accounting for 2000+ pieces of material and 600+ posts, with an increase in community engagement by 500%.

In 2023, after becoming a recipient of the Benjamin A. Gilman and Fund for Education Abroad scholarships, Mahiri found himself in Barcelona, Spain, studying. While honing the Spanish that he mastered and making friends, Mahiri was asked to support Chancellor May’s social media in his intern role when he was to return to the United States. After several months of doing so, he then became the interim Thursday Thoughts producer. He advanced the social media presence of Chancellor May of UC Davis on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, and LinkedIn as measured by a cohesive content reach of an estimated 75,000, accounting for 240+ pieces of material produced by February 2024. Three months later, in May of 2024, Mahiri was officially hired as the Executive Social Media Specialist, becoming a career staff member of the Strategic Communications department.

Under the direction of the Director of Social Media, Karla Fung, he is to develop, coordinate, and support a presence for the Chancellor on the website and social media channels (which may include a blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and similar vehicles). Track incoming feedback and messages and create reports that track metrics. Support strategic projects and planning and work closely with the Office of the Chancellor and other key stakeholders to ensure cohesion between the Chancellor’s communications and presentations.
