Goal: To illuminate best practices and solutions in the area of racial justice across disciplines and professions.

About the project

Hosted by the University of California, Davis, Office of Research and Policy for Equity, the annual UC Davis Equity Summit and Social Justice Awards brings together educators, community members and experts from a range of disciplines to address key social issues of our time. It focuses on intersections between information and inspiration, coalesces people, ideas and institutions to deepen strategies, shape actions and create solutions. It recognizes some of our current social justice warriors and inspires activism.

Each year the Summit’s event and promotional materials embrace a new style in celebration of the theme which is tied to the keynote speaker’s message. Basic shapes, such as the mountains in the header and the sun rays in the footer of webpages and promotional flyers, remain the same to provide a cohesive look throughout the years, but the colors and textures used in those shapes change annually. The UC Davis Equity Summit and Social Justice Awards’ style was inspired by the title of the event, Rituals of Resistance. The gold patterns used in these materials were abstracted from traditional ritualistic motifs and the event featured a deeper, jewel-tone palette to compliment the use of gold.
