Berit Oxley (she/her) is pursuing a B.S. in Global Disease Biology with a minor in Communication. Although she’s held extracurricular/unpaid positions related to scientific research, photojournalism, and social media in the past, this is her first job, so it holds an extra special place in her heart! After graduating, she hopes to attend graduate school, potentially pursuing a Master of Public Health or another science discipline. She wants to find a way to continue staying close to science/biology while also being in a people-focused role.

As a Science Social Media Intern, Berit has led an ongoing series of science explainer videos for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. The series is a collaboration with the News and Media Relations team to bring UC Davis science news stories to an undergraduate and prospective student audience. In Winter 2024, she accepted the role of TikTok Student Manager, where she oversees and helps produce a wide range of content for the UC Davis TikTok account.

If I could be any animal

I would be some kind of bird…maybe a parrot or owl. I really want to know what flying feels like, and I just think birds are fascinating animals.
